Moving back to physical infra
— Travis AthougiesWhen the cloud first came out, I remember being incredibly impressed. Click a button or run a command and voila, you had a virtual machine running somewhere that you could immediately use. For someone used to hosting websites on physical racks and servers, this seemed like utter magic. No more waiting for equipment to arrive, time to set it up in the data center, or OS installs. You didn’t even have to leave your desk. At the time, the cloud seemed exciting, and it seemed like everyone was moving their workloads to the cloud.
